WAugust 2025

WA, Washington State, August, for Caesar Augustus, W in front of August… for Wine!

A great place, for a great month.

Julius Caesar, probably the most infamous Roman ruler, had the month of Quintilis renamed to July in his own honor. Caesar Augustus wanted a month named after him as well. So, the month of Sextilis became August. Sextilis was renamed to August in 8 BCE by the Roman Senate. And not be outdone by his predecessor, Augustus, to match the length of July, decided a day would be taken from February and added to August, making it 31 days long. This is why August and July both have 31 days. While other emperors tried to rename months after themselves, only Julius and Augustus had lasting success. Well, with 31 days in August, it is a great month to venture out and try some wine… Washington Wine to be specific.

Check back from time to time and see what Washington wines we are getting infatuated with now.

Here’s a hint for the first few… Caesar Augustus ushered in the longest period of peace for the Roman Empire. In honor of that, wines from the stewards of peace will be the first segment.
