Tyron performed at Bluesfest about 20 years ago, and rocked the place then. Well he didn't disappoint this time either. With Billy playing, the group we have come to know and love all showed up and we settled in as a large mass of folks and tables right up front. We ordered a plate of the jalapeño poppers (a must have at Lake City Pub), my (Zeek) go to- the patty melt, and some drinks to enjoy with the music. We had ordered our new favorite Argentino bottle of Malbec, but when we went to order a second at some point in the night, we found out that they had run out of this new brand! We decided to go with a bottle of the Clone7, a red blend. It was a little higher acidity with a bit of a bite, but not a bad second option to the Malbec. Lake City Pub’s food and wine continue to elevate it to one of our favorites. It is so much more unique than the simple French fries and beer type options one might expect when ordering food at a pub, but it is truly 5-star dining! A good, chilled white for a warm summer day! Albarino Reserva (Uruguay): This was also a dry white, but it was a little bitter with a bit of a bite. Malbec (Red Mountain): Red Mountain wines are normally one of our favorites, but this one was a bit underwhelming. It had an almost vinegary taste but was smooth with a short finish. (However, it was our daughter’s favorite of the set!) Cabernet Franc Reserva (Uruguay): An earthy smell with just a slight detection of minerality and cooking spices. You can just taste the minerality with dark fruits and lingering tannins that provide a long finish throughout the mouth. Joel told him he would ask around but for now to get set up, as Dick would be accompanying Lew Schmngy that evening! Moxie: A red wine smooth and easy to drink with a mildly warming short finish. This is a good table wine. Aubaine: Mild but dark fruit red wine but a little spicy on the tongue. It was slightly sweet but still crisp. 2021 Estate Concrete Gruner Veltliner: This was an unexpected taste for a white wine. It was dry but fruity while not sweet. A good pairing for a fish dinner. 2019 Estate Duo: A medium finish red, this Merlot and Malbec blend had a medium finish with slight acidity. 2019 Estate The Machine: This was a strong Merlot flavor with the strength of a Cab Franc behind it. We did walk away with five bottles: two 2017 reserve Cabernet Sauvignons, two 2016 La Seurs, and one Sauvignon Blanc for our daughter, a favorite of hers as it is Keto friendly. A warming robust red with lingering tannins keeping the flavor alive even after you’ve swallowed your sip. This is a phenomenal deep red of complex flavors… We ended up taking three bottles home! The Triple Threat: This red blend included Cab Sauv, Syrah, and Merlot. It was incredibly smooth, still having that special something a good Red Mountain wine should, but with a little less warming sensation and lingering tannins than the 2018 Cab Sauv. One day I will convince Zeek that we should get a goat. We’ve already done dogs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, and ferrets. Goats must be next! Live music drew us to the sidewalks of Patterson cellars where we danced to some of the best music we had heard yet. Denice’s bold boots even got a shout out from the stage! We got to meet the musician afterwards, and, well, there is no one else that should be at the top of this list other than Billy Stoops! Not only a founding member of local Washington Blue's Society Hall of Fame indicted band Junkyard Jane, founded in 1997 and still performing their wildly loved Swampabilly Blues today, he is also a solo artist responsible for original music on two albums. The bond has stuck and today they call each other brothers. Joel played 3 sets a week at the Java Jive as the house band as well as worked as a hot tar roofer during the day while Todd worked for the local water department. Together, they would make trips out the Blues Fest, where Joel would help set up the stage and take out the garbage. But they always signed up for the open mic night before the festival at the Electric City Cantina and went campsite to campsite swapping songs for beers.
